“This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
This is one of my favorite Scriptures. Many versions of this Psalm/song exist, and I love singing it!
But let’s take a moment to acknowledge and ponder the gravity of the first part of this Scripture; the fact that “this day”, TODAY, was made by God. Go ahead… I’ll wait.
As you are thinking about this, be aware that God didn’t HAVE to make this day. He’s God, the Creator of everything. He calls the shots. He wasn’t obligated to make it. No one gave Him that assignment. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and always present. He reports to no one.
The best time for ME to do this is in the morning when I take the dog out. It’s quieter, with less distractions. I can take a deep breath and feel the peace all around me… soak in the magnitude of the creation. This is God’s Day. AND… It has such potential!
He didn’t have to make TODAY, but He did. Now the question is …what are you going to do with it?
Of course, you can do whatever you want, good or bad. You have that freedom. Yes, there are always consequences to weigh, but you get to choose what you do with “TODAY”. Be it good or bad, kind or rude, helpful or hateful, you get to decide.
God gives us a suggestion in the second part of the Scripture to “rejoice and be glad”. It’s an opportunity for you to leave your hopelessness behind and move forward towards a better future.
Rejoice!
Choose joy.
After all, Jesus said,” I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
